Perth Junior Civitan Club
The Civitan Club of Perth takes great pride in supporting a Junior Civitan club in the Perth area. The Perth Junior Civitan Club, chartered on December 13, 1994 is one of over 500 Junior Civitan clubs worldwide who are committed to improving the world and the lives of those less fortunate than themselves.
Started in 1932, Junior Civitan is the oldest and most successful program of Civitan International, Junior Civitan is a community service organization for young people between the ages of twelve and eighteen. There are approximately 17,000 Junior Civitans worldwide. Junior Civitan clubs are located in North America, Europe and Africa. Generally, Junior Civitans improve their schools and communities through service to others. Junior Civitans help others, particularly those with developmental disabilities, assist those less fortunate and promote environmental and drug abuse awareness. Junior Civitans not only help others, but they have a great time doing it. By working together, Junior Civitans learn the importance of teamwork and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
The Perth Junior Civitan Club assists its parent club with several of its projects throughout the year. This year, they assisted the Civitan Club of Perth in hosting the Ontario Special Olympics, Region 5, snowshoeing and cross country skiing competitions which were held in February at the Perth Civitan Hall. They also walked the parade route during the Perth Fair Parade, carrying buckets to collect donations for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Junior Civitans operate the coat check during the Seniors' Christmas dinner and help with the Children's Miracle Network Telethon as well as many other Civitan Club projects. As a result of their efforts in the 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 years, the Perth Junior Civitan Club has achieved the status of Honor Club of Distinction.
