I moved to Perth from Eganville in 1974 to begin my career in teaching.  A few months into the school year, a fellow teacher visited my room, told me about Civitan and invited me out to a meeting.  I had never heard of Civitan before but I enjoyed my introduction and have been a member now for thirty-two years.

Civitan is a service organization made up of men and women from varied backgrounds.  We have teachers, police, business people etc. who obviously enjoy helping others and also like the social aspect provided.

This service takes many forms as over the years we have provided street signs, helped the development of town parks and aided the Salvation Army with the purchase of a van on a number of occasions.  We also make donations to CHEO, the local hospital, Cancer society etc. as well as helping individuals who need some assistance.  We also look after a Medical Bank and provide a Christmas dinner for the elderly.

A major focus is still helping the physically and mentally challenged through our Civitan International Research Center and hosting the area's Winter Olympics.

Money to support these various causes comes from the rental of our hall, hosting a weekly bingo, and running a variety of other fundraising projects.

If you are interested in helping others and sharing in the fellowship of other like minded individuals, please consider becoming part of our organization.  Please call 613 283 7634 for further information.

Yours in Civitan,

 Wilf Raeder

President
2007-2008
